For contrasting views on the Hitchens water-boarding experiment, see Ann Althouse  and David T at Harry’s.

I happen to agree that water-boarding is torture and that therefore we shouldn’t do it, but David T oversimplifies. It makes for a good emphatic moral judgement, but it’s misleading, and it is misleading not only for the reason that Hitchens gives, but also because he only gives the debit side of the double entry. If it is true, as he says, that ‘America chose torture’ in 2002 when KSM was captured, it is equally true that America has rejected torture since, assuming we can believe that the CIA stopped in 2003.
